Gmail asks for mobile numbers-can make fail for it

Gmail just started to ask for mobile number of peoples while they signup for a new gmail account. If we say it from google’s point of view then it can be useful for it to keep records and to give accounts only to real peoples(i dont think robot softwares use email accounts).
But when we saw it from users point of view it is a thing peoples are not liking .Gmail incfreased its popularity fastely after its laucnhing and were giving a neck to neck compition to yahoo mail which was most popular email service provider.
But now when gmail is asking for mobile number users are better liking to use yahoo mail that we came to know after talking few of our online friends who are sifting to yahoo mail again.
Actually peoples still dont like to share their mobile no on websites because they find its risky. So this thing can make a fail in gmail users and can stop its increase.
Also if we sea it from google’s point of view its not much useful for google also as it already have scripts which tell them about users geography and mobile numbers cant help more in it.Yes it can be useful in fruad causes but still it will be difficult for google to maintain gmails growth.
